Becoming an Adult Bar or Bat Mitzvah

At Temple Beth Torah, we believe in life-long learning and are happy to afford the opportunity for a Jew to become Bar or Bat Mitzvah at any age.

The adult B'nei Mitzvah program is a two year course of study.  During those two years, students learn proficiency in Hebrew reading and engage in a variety of adult education courses offered by the Temple.

Requirements:

  • Beginning Hebrew (or equivalent)
  • An orientation meeting (this year we will meet 9/23/07)
  • 3 class meeting dates with Rabbi Beal
  • Rabbi Beal's Reform Judaism Class
  • The G-d Class (optional, but recommended)
  • Private and group lessons with Cantor Neff
  • Engagement in adult education courses of your choice during the process of preparation

This year's Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah will be on March 8, 2008.

We strongly encourage parents of 3rd graders to embark on this journey.  It will be a great way to bond with your child and for you to help one another succeed in your Jewish education.
