Toward the end of the fourth grade year, families will receive a letter inviting them to a meeting to begin the process of preparing for Bar or Bat mitzvah. At that meeting you will receive a form indicating the student's birthdate (as it appears in the Temple records) and equivalent Hebrew date in the year of the anticipated ceremony. There will also be a calendar of Shabbatot during that year indicating the Torah portion for each date and showing which dates are not available. You will be asked to take the information home and discuss it with your family.
You will need to fill out the form and indicate on the calendar which 4 dates would be acceptable to your family for the ceremony. The form and one copy of the calendar should be returned to the Religious Practices Committee during the summer. The committee will use your input to assign the dates which they will mail to your home about a month after the High Holy Days.
